hop daddy | pale ale

Pouring a pale golden colour with tight white head the pale ale showcases the hop Luminosa giving you notes of peach, mango, and candied citrus while the single malt base from NZ provides a background of light biscuit and a slight toasted bread. This beer is a well balanced showcase of two outstanding raw materials making it a great choice for those who appreciate a well crafted brew.

Racketeer red | American red ale

An easy drinking expression of an American Red that showcases both robust malt character and a pronounced hop presence. The interplay of sweet malt and hoppy bitterness makes for a great brew to enjoy on these cooler days. A tropical note comes through from the use of American hops and an approachable ABV makes for a great drinking experience.

Godze Gose | Blueberry Gose

A vibrant and well balanced fruited Gose that captures the essence of blueberries without overwhelming the palate. The interplay between sweet, tart and salty makes it a highly drinkable and refreshing choice. Perfect for warm weather as a palate cleanser.

Year Round Brews

Enjoy all of your well-known favourites from the James Squire core range year round!

Broken Shackles Lager

James Squire fought his way to freedom, taking plenty of risks and finally breaking the shackles of his seven year sentence to set up Australia’s first brewery.

A crisp lager that exhibits a balance of subtle herbaceous hop notes with a refreshingly uncomplicated clean finish. Brewed using pale and munich malts combined with noble Hallertau Mittelfruh hops, this brew is a quality quencher.

The Swindler Tropical Pale

Nine stolen chickens earned James Squire a cramped berth on the First Fleet. But he had other plans, swindling his way onto the ‘Women’s Ship’ and thoroughly enjoying the rest of his journey.

Big on refreshment, this easy drinking tropical pale ale pairs a light body with big tropical hop notes of passionfruit & melon, with a clean, fresh finish. Dry hopped with Galaxy and El Dorado for maximum aroma and pouring light straw in colour.

Mid River Pale Ale

James Squire might have been a chicken stealing, highway robbing, convict lothario, but he had some serious business smarts. That’s why, in 1806, he built his first tavern at Kissing Point on the shores of the Parramatta River, just at the spot where thirsty sailors would want to break their journey between Parramatta and Sydney Cove.

A full-flavoured pale ale with Vienna and Munich malts creating a rich, malty character. German hops give crisp herbaceous flavours and US hops add bright citrus and fruit aromas. All of this with just 3.5% alcohol.

One Fifty Lashes Pale Ale

When James Squire was discovered stealing ingredients from the stores to make the colony’s first batch of beer, the Judge ordered 150 lashes… plus two barrels of ale. Thankfully for us, James Squire was a far better brewer than he was a thief.

A clean-finishing, Australian-style cloudy pale ale for cracking refreshment. Malted wheat adds to its refreshing character and a concoction of hops creates fruity aromas with hints of passionfruit, grapefruit & citrus.

The CHancer Golden Ale

Never one to let a ball and chain hold him back, ex-convict James Squire seized every opportunity his emancipation offered. His unique blend of charm, skill and luck ultimately rewarded him with an enviable fortune as Australia’s first brewer.

Arguably the best looking of the James Squire craft beer range, the highly-drinkable The Chancer is noted for its distinctive orange-golden colour, unique tropical fruit aroma, restrained bitterness and dry finish.

FOUR 'WIVES' PILSENER

James Squire loved adventure and brewing beers, but even more than that he loved women, having taken a wife and three mistresses throughout his life. He left all of them something in his will, but thankfully we got the beer.

Brewed using Pale and Munich malts and Saaz hops to create an authentic brew of sparkling golden brilliance, distinctive floral hop aroma and enticing spicy finish, in keeping with James’ bohemian approach to life.

NINE TALES AMBER ALE

Every man’s life tells a story, but James Squire’s would have filled a library. From chicken thief and convict, he later found success as the Governor’s bodyguard, a publican, baker, butcher, money-lender and, ironically, local constable. But the greatest chapter was brewing…which worked out nicely for the rest of us!

Hand-crafted with Pale and Crystal malts and distinctive hops, this full-bodied, malt-driven beer is characterised by its rich copper colour, toffee-caramel sweetness and nutty finish balanced against citrus hop notes.

HOP THIEF NO. 10 AMERICAN PALE ALE

By hook or by crook, James Squire always found a way to source the finest hops available for his flavoursome ales. Sometimes this resulted in a good lashing and other times in a handsome reward, but always in a good story to tell with a great-tasting beer.

The James Squire brewers are pumped to release the Special 10th Edition of Hop Thief 10, the latest in our brew series that celebrates the amazing and unique characteristics different hops can contribute to beer.

This time we have looked to the mountains of New Mexico to source the new breed of Sabro hops to add unique flavours of tangerine, cream and cedar. Along with Sabro we have used Hop Thief favourites of Simcoe, Mosaic and Galaxy to provide a vibrant burst of tropical hop flavour.

JACK OF SPADES PORTER

Back when rum was the unofficial currency, it took a real gambler to bet his future on brewing. But James Squire was never one to shy away from a challenge or try his hand at something new, quickly building a fortune from his brewery and tavern.

Utterly unique, Jack of Spades has a more delicate complexity than a regular stout. Roasted barley and long maturation deliver a dark porter with rich black colour, hints of malt chocolate and roasted coffee, and a light creamy finish.

ALCOHOLIC GINGER BEER

James Squire Ginger Beer has been carefully crafted with Australian ginger for a light, refreshing and zingy ginger taste. It can be enjoyed straight from the can or over ice with fresh lime.

ORCHARD CRUSH APPLE CIDER

Plenty of ladies could attest to the tempting charms of James Squire. And what better place to sow the seeds of love than in his orchard at Kissing Point? Apples have always represented temptation to brewers, and James was probably no different.

A refreshing traditional cloudy cider with a fragrant, fresh aroma, a broad clean palate, and a crisp finish.
